Last Tuesday saw us running a very successful internet safety workshop for parents.  The big message that we pushed across was that the children need to be responsible for themselves and always inform a responsible adult when there is a problem.  It is impossible for us to monitor every single internet communication that our children make, so it is essential that the children know what the dangers are, how to avoid them and how to respond if things do get risky.

Technology Workshop

 Children's Technology Workshop - Gamemaker.  The children absolutely love this as it gives them the opportunity to be creative in producing their own computer game for others to play.

Most work their way through a set of simple tutorials and then bring all these skills together in creating their own game.

iPhone restore

 Lost all my data on my phone this week.  Rather impressed with how iCloud jumped in and restored my phone as soon as I found a WiFi connection.  It works!!!

This is an amazing use of digital photography.  I'll share this with the kids once they begin their stop go animation work later in the year.  Can't wait!

In class blogs

Worked with the kids today on teaching them how to make a 'blog' sandwich' ie. comment on other people's blogs but keep it positive at both ends with some constructive critisism in the middle.  The Year 6's were brilliant at this.  Almost time to set them loose on each other's blogs!

Class blogs

Kids are working on their class blogs at the moment.  A few got together and made a little video about their upcoming trip to Borneo.  Great stuff !

OK, well were a couple of weeks into the website now and it's slowly taking shape.  I'm pleased that I've now managed to purchase my domain name and have tidied up the site to make it easier to navigate.  The front page photo and video is really a bit of fun, but I think I'll have to get that changed to something a bit more realistic in the near future...before everyone rips me to pieces!  Anyway, the next step will be to get some more coverage on youtube and hopefully ensure I come up in search engines.  More to come soon !

Late night (23rd June)

Well it's 1.15am and probably time I gave up working on the site now and made it into bed.  Managed to purchase my domain today and to link the website to it. www.josephwhittaker.com is finally up and running.  Now it's time to get it listed well on google....maybe tomorrow.

Back on the site (8th June)

OK, well it's Saturday and I'm back on the mac working on the website.  Time to play around with a few of the page settings now, especially the tutorials section.  I'm planning on adding subsections and making it easier to navigate.  Of course, more videos to add too.

School Holidays (6th June)

Well here we are in June already and my school is on holiday.  Great to have a week off and gives me a bit of time to work on this site and get things updated.  Have managed to add a few screen-casts today which will hopefully help people who are trying to pick up new skills along the way through watching video tutorials.  Am probably going to head up to Penang in the next few days so won't really have too much time to work on the site so best to get it all done today if possible. Have been playing around with new screen-cast software which makes the whole process a lot easier as I can upload directly to my YouTube Channel.  Screencast-o-matic is definitely worth a look.
